Sapele Sawn Timber

Sapele is one of the most polular African wood species. It is grown and exported majourly for economic purposes and used in furniture, flooring, playwood, musical instruments and more. The Sapele trees grow in tropical Africa wit the usual height being around 100-150 ft height and trunk diameter around 3-5 ft.

Sapeli heartwood is pink-red, later colouring to a deep brown. The sapwood, clearly demarcated from the heartwood, can be up to 60-80 mm thick and has a grey-pink or yellow-pink colour. The heartwood often has an attractive golden sheen, such as with the Swietenia mahogany types.
